Unlocking funding opportunities: Grants Office seminar at Institut Pasteur New Caledonia

By Nazaré Guimard, head of Grants Office

We are happy to share the outcomes of our recent seminar that was held from March 11-14, 2024, at Institut Pasteur New Caledonia (IPNC). Over these four informative days, researchers from IPNC had the opportunity to learn about different funding opportunities and get tips on writing compelling research proposals.

Exploring Funding and Proposals Over Four Dynamic Days

The main goals of this seminar led by the Grants Office (GO) team were:

  • To inform researchers about the various funding opportunities available to them

  • To provide them with the skills to write compelling research proposals.

We were very lucky to meet Carla Saleh, head of the viruses and RNA interference unit at Institut Pasteur Paris that came to IPNC for the start of ANR MINT project and was present at our seminar. The seminar included several informative sessions. We wanted to highlight the different funding options and give practical advice on creating persuasive proposals. The sessions were designed to equip researchers od IPNC with the tools and insights they need to navigate the complex world of grant applications.

Discussions with the Researchers

We covered a wide range of topics, from identifying suitable funding opportunities to aligning project goals with the priorities of potential funders (European Commission, ANR, NIH, etc.). In addition to the plenary sessions, we also had one-to-one meetings between the GO team and researchers of each unit. This personalized approach allowed researchers to engage in meaningful discussions, seek advice, and build connections with the GO team. The interactions and discussions with researchers were very fruitful. The depth of insights shared and the diverse perspectives brought forward enriched the entire seminar experience.

Looking Ahead: Expanding Collaborations

With the new insights and better understanding of funding opportunities, we hope that researchers from IPNC and the Pasteur Network are now better equipped to pursue their goals. Building on this success, we want to extend this model to other Institut Pasteur departments and institutions within the Pasteur Network. We believe these exchanges are essential for creating a vibrant ecosystem for scientific progress. We were also delighted to meet the Grants Office and leadership of The New Caledonia University in Noumea. We would like to thank the director of IPNC, Marc Jouan, and Myrielle Dupont-Rouzeyrol for the excellent organization of this event, as well as all the researchers who attended and contributed to the success of the seminar with their active participation and enthusiasm. Together, let's continue to unlock funding opportunities, drive scientific progress, and pave the way for groundbreaking discoveries.
