Just like researchers, research managers participate in professional associations and attend conferences in their field. Returning from the annual conference of the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators - EARMA, our Grants Office team is invigorated with fresh insights and strategies to enhance our support for researchers. The conference was attended by >1,400 research managers from around Europe and it covered nine topics including Pre-award and Post-award support to researchers, meaning support to apply for funding and manage funded projects.

Several members of the Grants Office attended the conference in April 2024 in Odense, Denmark. Among them, five presented short talks or posters, while the head of the Grants Office was offered a flagship talk for the topic Leadership:

  • “Challenges Faced by Grants Offices: Lessons Learned”, flagship talk by Nazaré Guimard

  • “ERC: Excellence needs to be coached”, short talk by Ksenia Bagrintseva

  • “Project management practices - MSCA Staff exchange”, short talk by Maëlle Pichard

  • “Winning NIH grants: how to make a start?”, short talk by Soizic Sergeant

  • “Creating sustainability plans: where to start?”, poster by Liliana Avila Ospina

  • “Ethics in Grants Applications: Tools for Research”, poster by Vania Rosas and Emilien Stragier

From navigating funding opportunities to optimizing project management, the conference offered invaluable networking and learning opportunities that we look forward to implementing.
