The Grants Office is organized into 3 divisions covering funders depending on their geographical areas: national, Europe (European Commission) or international.

Each division has the expertise of a dedicated Project Officer who leads the regular monitoring of the calls, does targeted incentive actions and brings meticulous support to proposal preparation.

Let’s meet our 3 experts!

Maha DAVID – PhD in Cell Biology in 2002 at the University of Rouen, Maha has dual skills in biomedical research and project management. She joined Institut Pasteur 4 years ago, initially as Project Manager for the Inception project and then as Project Officer for the international division. She oversees setting up projects to apply for funding from international funders, including the NIH.

Emilien STRAGIER - PhD in Neuroscience in 2014 at the University of Paris Descartes (Renamed UPCité), Emilien joined the Grants Office in January 2020. He first worked for the national division as a Project Officer, then extended his expertise to both the national and European divisions. Emilien is also the Grants Office's ethics referent.

Olivier SCHAETZLE – PhD in Chemistry in 2010 at the University of Rennes I, Olivier then worked as a researcher in a Dutch research Institute before joining the Grants Office in July 2018. He works as a Project Officer for the EU division. His role covers the whole chain of activities: scouting for EU funding opportunities, setting communication towards the campus, organizing training, supporting the researchers in their grant application and eventually assisting them once the grant is obtained.

Project Officers leverage their expertise in research funding across France, Europe, and beyond to support researchers at the Institut Pasteur. Their scientific knowledge helps identify relevant calls and encourage participation. Researchers face challenges balancing science with funder obligations, including administrative and compliance tasks. Project Officers simplify this process by deciphering guidelines, assisting with budget preparation and handling specific sections like ethics or impact. They act as timekeepers, creating schedules, checklists and reminders for timely submissions. Additionally, their collaboration with support services and understanding of internal procedures ensure institutional compliance and protects both researchers and the institute.

If you feel a bit overwhelmed when considering a call, take a deep breath and contact your Project Officer.
