Launched in 2021 within the framework of the Innovation Santé 2030 plan of France 2030, the Biotherapies and Bioproduction of Innovative Therapies Priority Research and Equipment Program (PEPR BBTI) research program is designed to support the French scientific community to meet the constant demand for new tools, knowledge and approaches.

The PEPR BBTI is a major initiative of the BBTI acceleration strategy, with a budget of 80 M€ over 7 years. This research program coordinated by INSERM and CEA, aims to contribute to the early-stage development of tomorrow’s biotherapies and associated key technologies by federating the national academic research ecosystem and promoting close links with industry and the hospital sector.

The support provided by the program is materialized by:

  • The development of a new generation of biotherapies and cutting-edge technologies;

  • The development of new biological systems and equipment;

  • Increasing the production efficiency of biotherapies;

  • Anticipating the arrival of new biotherapies on the market;

  • Creating a strong French research ecosystem for biotherapies.

The PEPR BBTI is in the process of constructing a “call for expression of interest” (AMI) which will be launched at the end of 2024. The overall objective of the AMI is to support multidisciplinary projects including non-traditional players in the biotherapeutics and biomanufacturing field, in order to create a dynamic ecosystem conducive to the development of cutting-edge technologies. To identify specific interests, needs and future trends of the research community in France, the PEPR BBTI has launched a shared survey and will organize a dedicated workshop end of June 2024 (details to be communicated soon).

Your input and participation in the construction of this AMI will define the future topics and priorities of the PEPR BBTI, so please take the time to fill out the survey!

Principle actions of the PEPR BBTI:

  • 12 projects launched in 2023

  • A call for proposals launched in April 2024 with a deadline on September 5, 2024

  • An AMI under construction for publication at the end of 2024
